  • Manolo Valdés in New York

Until 26th May 2013 the seven pieces that Manolo Valdés created especially for the New York Botanical Garden will be on show. Works with names such as Galatea, Alhambra or Butterflies are integrated in a surprising way with the surroundings, creating a dialogue between the pieces and the nature that surrounds them.

The Capa Foundry has been in charge of making these monumental sculptures in corten steel, aluminium and bronze. The heads were produced through the process of sand casting and the headdresses required painstaking work consisting of cutting the sheets with waterjet or flame cutting depending on the material used for the subsequent texturing, folding, bending and assembly.

Also, Capa has been in charge of the transport logistics department, in which a total of 46,400 kg of material has been moved, and of the installation in the New York Botanical Garden.

Fruit of his experiences and travels, in his work we recognise archetypal forms of primitive cultures such as the bowl, the fire, the knife, the pyramid trunk shapes or the house, which have a prominence that they share with reflection, contrast, the sacred, the mysterious and magical.

The Capa Foundry has worked as an interpreter for the artistic creation through the working of metal and fire, civilising elements, entering part of the evolution of the sculptures modelled by Alberto Corazón.

  • Re-finishing the door-sculpture of the Prado

The conservation work has just been completed and that has been ongoing on the monumental gates giving access to the enlargement of the Prado Museum of Moneo. Made in the Capa Foundry in 2006 by Cristina Iglesias.

This project involved the removal of efflorescence and the application of a protective layer of natural wax. This cleaning work must be done superficially without altering the original patina, of a compact layer of oxidation which is sticky in bronze, to prevent a more profound oxidation of the material.

One of the reasons that these salt deposits appear is the high acidity from rain in the capital, a consequence of the emission of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen monoxide, which react with the water in the air, causing rain with a low pH that attacks the copper in the bronze.

From the 25th to 28th October you will be able to visit the Capa Gallery stand in the Estampa Multiple Art fair.

There we will be presenting new works edited by Capa which, for their creation, we had the talent and collaboration of the prestigious artists Miquel Navarro and Alberto Corazón, who give us a closer glimpse of their sculptural universe.

The sculptors Patricia Losada Casanova, Julio Cesar Murciego and Emilio Velilla, will also be present, whose works retrace human dualities and the search for truth, pure abstraction that seduces with its own beauty value and the representation of recognisable archetypes and heroism.

  • Πmetria by Julio Cesar Murciego
    19/09/2012

Is it possible to combine the logic of the golden ratio with the absurdity and immeasurability of humans? For Julius Caesar Murciego it is, by rescuing waste materials and bronze work, both in cold and hot, he succeeds in creating sculptural pieces characterised by the instinct and frankness, which are somewhat harsh in their finish.

The elusive and sensual is mixed with the earthly and the perverse, passing through all the intermediate stages, more or less virtuous, which moves the nature of the subject. The circle, sphere and wave are resources which enhance the majesty or the rusticity of the work according to their special features.

Nine unique pieces in bronze and iron make up this Πmetria exhibition, which will remain in the Capa Sculptures Gallery in Madrid until 16th October 2012, and serves to inaugurate our new exhibition season.

The event took place last May, 26th, in the Palau de les Arts de Valencia and was granted, for his work in strengthening the cultural relations between both countries, to the Indian director Zubin Mehta. As well as the presence of Queen Sofia, who was in charge of the award ceremony, the event was attended by other personalities like the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Fabra, and the Foreign Minister, José Manuel Maria Gargallo.

The work chosen as a prize, Fuego-Aire (Fire-Air) by Enrique Mesonero, belongs to Los cuatro elementos (The Four Elements) collection (2011) the result of the research carried out around the materialisation and dematerialisation of the sculpture. Through the combination of volume and colour, embodiment and essence, the author "plays" with the viewer, allowing them to view the sculpture but never touch it.

  • Vuelos y marañas by Patricia Losada Casanova
    05/05/2012

Patricia Losada is a multidisciplinary artist who deals with creative work, not only through a single material, but through a symphony of resources able to convey the essence of her work: the search of ancestral origins.

Patricia Losada is a multidisciplinary artist who deals with creative work, not only through a single material, but through a symphony of resources able to convey the essence of her work: the search of ancestral origins.

The Vuelos (flights), as elementary and basic wishes and dreams, and the marañas (tangles), as dilemmas or challenges, they express the dichotomy that arises over the existence.

The artist connects with this moment of singularity and thanks to this, she creates works with its own vitality, a talismans-guide that will help us in the eternal work of untangling our tangles.

The exhibition will take place at the Capa Sculptures Gallery in Madrid from 7th June to 21st July.

  • Exhibition by Yves Pagart: Recent work
    04/05/2012

The most recent works are done in cellulosic clay to which the artist gives the most diverse qualities, absorbing light and squeezing the softness of the volumes, we are dragged to the depth of the work which generates extraordinary nuances and inevitably invites us to caress it.

The work of Yves Pagart, without being figurative, appears to emerge from a deep sea world, it is mostly zoomorphic, other pieces are more vegetable or mineral, like the amazing relief works that evoke the essence of nature. In his work, the 'excessive' disappears to give way to pure and essential shapes. Zinc and oxidized copper, skated rubber and natural pigments give his work an aspect of relic.

    Location: Brussels
