Living Memory: Monument to the Victims of 11M

Sawu Studio.

Inaugurated in 2023, the Recuerdo Vivo sculpture is located in Calle López de Hoyos, in Chamartín, Madrid. Designed by Sawu Studio and selected in a competition held by the Madrid City Council, this work pays tribute to the victims of terrorism, offering a space for reflection and memory. Composed of 96 stainless steel prisms, organized in blocks of four, it symbolizes the lives cut short and the strength of the community in the face of adversity. The interior colors represent the richness and diversity of shared memories, while the exterior white reflects purity and innocence. Its matte finish adds solemnity, and its interaction with light, both natural and artificial, reinforces the symbolism of memories as living, dynamic entities. Placed in an accessible urban environment, the sculpture invites the integration of collective memory into everyday life. Recuerdo Vivo is not only a tribute, but a symbol of resilience and hope, which connects emotionally with those who visit it. At Capa Esculturas, we are deeply proud to have participated in this project, contributing to materialize a design that unites art, memory and social commitment.
